no sound

Hi Everyone:
I tried just about everything.. My Hp 7975 originally came with Windows XP home. I wanted to upgrade to Win 2000 Pro and had no sound, So I installed Win XP Pro.. and had sound.. I wanted to see if I had a sound issue. Since I didn't have a sound issue with XP Pro. I installed Win 2000 Pro.. I don't have any sound.. All I have is Yellow Exclamation Points on my Ethernet Controller, on my Multimedia Audio Controller, I also have and Exclamation point on my PCI Simple Communication and one on my Vido Controller (VGA Compatible) Is there anything I can do to correct this situation? Thanks

Yes you need to install the 2k drivers for the devices...

Here is your product specifications

If the motherboard was made by intel then these drivers should work If you are not sure, then go to www.belarc.com and download the free personal audit, and post back here with what it says about your "main circuit board"

Quite often xp drivers will word for 2k, if you have a separate driver disk you could try it.

I'm not sure why you went back to W2K after XP Pro was working, however, the cause of your problem is that W2K does not natively support some of the components that XP does.

HP does not post W2K drivers for this system. In fact, it does not post XP drivers either (only updates). They instruct you to use the application recovery program installed on the PC. As there is no recovery CD, if you reformated the system it is likely that you wiped out the drivers. If not, you could try the XP drivers.

Based on the spec sheet the system has an Intel 845 chipset w/ integrated audio and NIC. This could pose a problem, as Intel does not provide reference audio or network drivers (if they made them). You would need to determine who made the motherboard (which may not be possible with an HP system) or the audio/network chipset and see if they had drivers.

You could try downloading and installing the latest Intel chipset drivers from: http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scri...6&DwnldID=5811 but this is unlikely to fix the audio and NIC problem.

According to the spec sheet the system has an nVidia GeForce2-MX200 video card. Download those drivers here: http://www.nvidia.com/view.asp?IO=winxp-2k_44.03

It also appears that you have an IEEE 1394 card. It appears that it is a Smart 90112. Smart does not appear to post drivers for this on their web site.
