Dell Inspiron 8000 Inverter Board.

I have a client with a Dell Inspiron 8000 laptop with a 15" LCD display. The display keeps flickering and has a sickly orange tint to it. I've figured out that the most probable culprit is the inverter board. The problem I have is that I can't find the correct inverter board for this particular screen. It is a Hitachi 15" and all I can find for inverters are ones for the Samsung, IBM, and Sharp LCD screens. No one seems to have any for the Hitachi. Anyone know of a place where I can find one? Your help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The part number would nail it ! but I take it you haven't got around to 'dis-assembling' yet ? you can certainly get 'em .... I'd agree though it sounds very 'plausible' that the inverter is to blame - bang on 'right' (but in this case 'wrong' - 'cos that's what's broken ) symptoms ...

(I got a few hits with the google search string 'dell inspirion 8000 inverter' - but without knowing the part number ... you get the drift!)

Cool

The part number is the tricky part. I had already dis-assembled the LCD assembly to get at the inverter and their is only one sticker that I can see on it. Three sets of numbers under the bar code.

67301900
J12I005.00
0116115-3a

None of them look like Dell part numbers, but the LCD itself has a part number of JP-0007KN Rev. A00 (15" SXGA+). The inverter itself has a metal shroud (soldered on, by the way) covering the top portion so there might actually be another sticker that I can't see. I might even de-solder the shroud to take a peek, if you think that might help.

Well I can't help with any of those numbers either ... dell part numbers are generally 5 digits & with a bar code so as you say not them ... mmm but 'soldered on' - won't I think have that, so I don't think any of the numbers are dell bits ... But you think the displays an hitachi one anyway?, but I dunno about them !

Can you furnish us with an image ? .. maybe...

Stumped!

The inverter's for dell's are dell specific. No other laptop uses them. If you have the unit's service numbers (I need both the service tag and the other one) I can try and look up a part number for you. Dell often packs the inverter as part of an "LCD maint kit"

Well I assumed the 'beast' in question was out of warranty ! but seems not ... Could he not return the entire unit then ? (not impuning Hippie_Tech's ability but he did mention soldering ! surley this is best done by a dell 'repairer' then he's covered still ...?)

I feel stupid now. When the client brought it in, the first thing we asked was whether or not the unit was under warranty. He said "no, I only had a one year warranty". I took him for his word and never thought to check if it was still in warranty. He'll be getting a call with his options (sending it in for repair). Never again will I take a client's word for warranty. The last thing I need is someone coming in for a repair, bill them, and then get an angry phone call from the customer asking us why they were charged for something that was under warranty. I'm re-assembling and giving it back to the client. Thanks everyone.

I have the same problem with the inverter on a Dell 8000. Did you find a source for the inverter? Dell wants me to buy the whole LCD Kit

So welcome to windrivers geefost.

From Hippie_tech's earlier description, I think I'd concluded its all one bit - his remarks 'soldered on' ?

Laptops aren't really my thing, but I guess to give others/me clues to help you, every bit of info you can find will help, so lcd make & any 'mysterious' numbers that might clue up some of the 'googlers' around here .. oh & for what its worth I think the fact that you seemingly can't get the bits seperate, stinks too !

As Confus-ed has stated, it is "all one bit". You would have to get the whole screen to get the inverter board, unfortunately.

Ta for the indirect confirmation there, Hippie_tech (I thought you'd disappeared ), I pressume then you ended up replacing 'the whole thing' but under your 'discovered' warranty ?
