Gateway Solo 2100 BIOS password

I'm trying to get a Solo 2100 to boot, but I see a Hard Disk failure message. I pressed F2 to get to the BIOS settings, but someone has set a password for this laptop.

Is there something I can do to get around this password, or at least disable it? Is there a battery on the motherboard that saves this information that I can remove?

Thanks for any help.
