SoundMAX integrated Digital Audio

here is the deal, I got a computer from a friend, for doing some work. I have everything configured but i can't seem to get any audio stream from the output prongs to the speakers, I've downloaded the soundmax drivers from intel.com, creative soundblaster drivers, as well as having windows automatically search and install, all coming up with not a single spec of audio output. the system is the Compaq Evo D310, I did a clean winXP install without any compaq support or programs. I am a music fanatic, and have tried everything I, friends, and random people in techrooms have thought of, yet no results, knowing XP im sure its just some random 5 menu deep option, but I don't know it, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to Windrivers Knighted! Have you checked the BIOS to see if the onboard sound has been disabled? How about on the mobo to see if a jumper or dipswitch has it disabled? Do you know for sure you have the right drivers in device manager? Also check to see if the speakers are muted in sound properties and that the volume is turned up. Does it play any sound at all like from cd or from the hard drive? Do the speakers definetly work? Are they plugged into the sound out port (usually green)? Do the speakers have power? Lots of things to check! Good Luck!

I really am starting to think My last option is to throw in My old Celery 133 computers sound card to give Me audio.

Compaq D310 - had one of those, I have actually got the onboard and a hercules sound card running at the same time.

I would suggest the following:

Boot to safe mode, go to add/remove programs, remove any sound max and/or creative software (what were you doing installing creative drivers for anyway?) then go to device manager and show hidden devices, remove anything to do with sound, including game ports and wave devices for modems etc.

Now have a search and destroy mission through the registry for the devices themselves (under enum) and their associated software (with creative could be anywhere

)

Shut down, disable the on board sound in bios.
Reboot to normal mode, make sure windows does not detect any sound whatsoever, check all programs have gone.

Shut down, re enable sound in bios - use ONLY the compaq soundmax driver installation.

Should be good to go.

I wasn't trying to sound condesending everyone overlooks things from time to time just making a few reccomendations also how was I to know what you have checked and haven't checked unless I ask? Anyhow my apology to you if I offended you in anyway it was not my intention to offend you.

according to "my computer" I have a SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio. I was wondering if anyone can tell me if it would be considered a Full duplex Soundblaster compatible sound card- Thank you

The soundmax might be... exactly which soundmax do you have?
What is the make and model of your pc (or if it is not branded, what motherboard do you have?)
What windows?
