Post Using the Microsoft IntelliMouse on a Sony notebook

I have a Sony notebook computer and I can use a standard PS/2 mouse without any problems. I hooked up an IntelliMouse (wheel mouse with PS/2 connector) and I installed the drivers. For some reason, it appears that the mouse is picking up excessive noise when I move it (icons move, applications open and close). It makes no difference if the touch pad on the notebook is disabled. If I use a standard PS/2 mouse, there's no problem.

Any suggestions? Is there a wheel mouse that works?

On the road I use a Sony Vaio notebook with a MS Intellimouse Explorer...w/o any difficulty. But, I use it through one of the USB ports, and leave the touchpad enabled.

Although I've never seen the problem you describe, you might want to check that other mouse devices were removed from device manager prior to current mouse driver installation, that your mouse drivers on are the latest version of the Intellimouse software [I believe it's v3.2]. It also comes to mind that there's a MS KB article concerning mouse problems when the mouse acceleration is set too high. [Can't remember what issues it caused....]
