Desktop Replacements

I've been put in charge of getting new laptops for my entire department to be used as desktop replacement. The portability will be great for us.

I have always had good luck with Compaq laptops. My mother recently got the x1000 model, and it's REALLY NICE. It falls into the budget I'm looking for and has all the options we need, too.

Now, our vendor apparently can only get the equivalent HP laptop - although bigger hard drive, and a bigger price.

I'm not sure about HP laptops, but I really had my eye on those Compaq laptops. Should I be open to the HP's or hold out for the Compaqs?

are you locked into just those 2 choices? if not then check out Power Notebooks . they always rate a 10 at Reseller Ratings.

Really now, is there ANY difference?
Are you really limited in choice to one or the other?

I am also.....

in charge of buying the notebooks for my company. Depending on price range and what they will be used for, we buy all Compaq Evo's with Pentium processors for the power users, we buy HP/Compaq NX series with Celeron processors for our "normal" users (Email, Word, Excel and VPN use). They have been tried and true and can really take a beating. We have "experimented" with some low end Toshiba Satellite Notebooks in the $900 range, while the price is right, they are REALLY FLIMSY. I now have an Acer Travelmate 430 and for the money it has to be one of the best laptops I have ever used (I beat it up pretty bad......). Now if our leasing program would allow it, I would go with Dell, they have been ranked #1 in both Home User and Business support.

So it all depends on a few things....

What will they be used for (Average users do not need a $1700 notebook)?

Level of Support (Do you have the personnel to repair the laptops once they are out of warranty, do you need top notch support from the manufacturer)?

Buy or lease (We lease our notebooks for 2 years so we can sort of stay up to date)?

I hope this helps and if you need any more info, please let me know, I will be happy to discuss this more as we have used notebooks from many different manufacturers and I can tell you what we have run into.

Thanx!!!!!

Love them.
