laptop problems

Hi there and merry christmas,

My Advent 6418 (okay I guess i deserve my problems) laptop is refusing to work. The problem (as far I can see) is that the laptop isn't working off of the ac adaptor. Even when it's plugged in the icon shows the laptop as working off the battery and it doesn't charge the battery so there's nothing from the adaptor. I purchased a new ac adaptor but the same problem continues- it still only works off the laptop. Does anyone have any idea what the root of the problem is and how easy it is to fix. I'm a student and have essays to write and this is really annoying. Any suggestions are much appreciated.

Is there any indication on the ac adapter that it is receiving power, like an led?

many times this is caused by a faulty plug on the notebook itself. If you know how to solder and can take the notebook apart without breaking it you may want to try just re-soldering the connections on the plug.

If you either don't know how to take it apart or do not have a soldering iron with a sharp tip/soldering skills I would recommend taking it to a reputable shop. If it turns out just to be the plug, you shouldn't be paying anything more than the minimum service charge (usually under $50)

Merry Christmas

There's no led but the previouac adaptor did have one and did light up when in use.
