    Wink Static abatement in carpets

    Hello
It is winter at the computer shop and we are battling static electricity. I touch metal objects and get shocked as we have carpet in the sales and work areas. Will ANY fabric softener, applied to the carpet by placing in the carpet cleaner's tank; work to stop this?
    Thanks
    Ken

I do not know if there is something you can add to the carpet cleaner to help your problem, however, I do have some ideas if you can not find such an additive. Unfortunately, each of them will cost more in the short run.

Have you considered adding a humidifier to the shop to raise the relative humidity? Or better yet, add a humidifier directly to the furnace? You could also replace your carpet with special carpet made specifically to reduce or eliminate static electricity. I once had an employer that designed our workroom so that the entire floor was grounded in such a way as to prevent static electricity. It is also possible to buy mats for doorways that do the same thing on a more limited basis. Good luck.
