Invalid page fault
running windows 98, when switching from dial-up to verizon dsl, something happened so i cant use iexplorer without causing illegal operation and shutting down. tried fixing iexplorer- same; loaded netscape-same thing. both dial up modem and dsl modem do connect, but cant use iexplorer.
this began after going thru installation teps for dsl. when at the step to start account, system supposed to access web, but it hung. since then no luck.
used system configuration utility for clean boot-same problem
any help that would prevent me from starting from scratch would be appreciated

Welcome to the forums.
Do you get any error codes or "details" explaining the illegal operation. Should have a more or details tab in the illegal operation box. That is if I remember correctly that problem is win98.
Post the exact error message and someone can then help you. And are you using win98 or win98se.
And have you gone to Microsoft and got all the latest updates?

You can also call or email Verizon Tech Support. I'm sure they've come across this problem before. It sounds like an installation problem...

there is also a DUN upgrade for 98 available. This often sorts odd problems out... but I fear the error is going to be to do with mshtml.dll This is a pig to fix. If it is this, first thing to check is the version number of mshtml.dll - find the file, right click and choose properties, version tab. You may also now have more than one version of this file. Let us know what you have.

On a different line of attack, I recently saw a client whose new DSL connection would crash due to Yahoo Companion toolbar. Maybe something similar in your case?
