Sound Problem

Can anyone tell me why i don't have sound on my PC but can play CD's. I have Windows98SE with SoundMax on it. I can't even turn the volume up on it.I click on the volume and it won't pull up.
If anyone knows anything it could be please help.

Have you tried upgrading the sound drivers?

Yes,if you mean updating them. I've checked the drivers and they are all working.

We had a problem with sound cutting out because of a corrupted win.ini file on a couple of computers. They were all running ME though. Do you have a backed up win.ini you could restore? (I'd recommend backing up the current one first though. )

When you go into the volume control properties,then on shortcut is there surpose to be anything typed in the "Start In" box? Cause mine is empty.
And I'm wondering if that's got anything to do with it.
