    On cyclone warning..

Well we thought we had actually escaped this cyclone as it headed out to sea but now its turned and is heading almost straight for us (Broome). Its currently a category 3 but has been a category 5 and is expected to intensify back to a cat 5 as it gets near the coast. Thats wind gusts to 280 kmph.

Hopefully it will turn a bit further south and we will only get the edge of it. The last time we had a cyclone hit in April 2000 we had no power for almost 5 days and lots of mess to clean up around the town.

    That's because you're a pu$$y.

When I was in Okinawa we used to have to put on our helmets and flack jackets and brave the weather. Then again, it was usually because we were being hazed. They called it Typhoon watch, and all the new Boots had to do it. When it got real rough everyone would have to go out to real in the boots before they got carried off by a gust.

But the most interesting thing…the small stores and shacks in town never showed any wear. Hours after the storm passed, you would see the shop owners sweeping in front of their store open for business. Those people were hardcore!

Did any one else hear about that guy who was going to strap himself to a pole and try and ride out a Hurricane... His big statement was that a 200MPH wind couldn't kill you... No but anything in that wind could !!!

    hey YA-KNOW,

Take your argument on over to your own thread and leave it out of mine.

    Cleetus,

You would know how it goes then living in the gulf region.

I think its not so much the wind that bothers me but not having power for 4 to 5 days afterwards is the biggest pain. Its still hot and humid and you have no fans or aircon. This year I got myself a generator at a garage sale. It will run a few lights and a fan to keep on our youngest child.

Heres the latest taken at 1am this morning. The next update is in one hour.

    Yeah Ridell,
We have one of our own over our side of the continent. I don't think as severve but more spread out ..full of huge rains I know that...Cairns is cut off from floods and rockslides and many more coastal regions.. We are a little inland so all we are getting is strong winds and heaps of rain..oh and its bloody cold wind to which is weird for a cyclone.....

there seems from your sateliite shot as below that there's another forming up near paua New Guinea and one coming behind your one.

    Mayet,

There is another one out near Cocos and Chrstmas Island Cyclone Oscar but itsheading West away from anyone. I had heard about all the rain over that way as my dad lives in Kuranda. He cant get down to Cairns as the range is cut off.
