Locked out of an IBM think pad

I have a customer with a IBM notebook and all it now gets is a black screen with a lock in the top left hand corner. I know this customer and I sold him the lap top. He doesn't know the password and IBM is unwilling to help... I can't format of even F-disk the hard drive on another computer to try and get rid of this dumb *** thing.... does any one have an Idea ???

IBM requires you to send them the laptop for password removal I believe. They will not help you break the password in any way. SO unless the customer jogs his memory somehow, he's going to be stuck paying for the mistake.

You could also try these guys: http://www.nortek.on.ca/hdd_pw.html

There is no important data on the drive if it comes to it I'll just replace the drive... Ironic thing is that the company you suggested is the next town over

The password is most likely in the BIOS. Changing the hard drive won't help.

It's worse than that Doc, Supervisor password has its own chip on the motherboard, which also sets the hdd password. Pay up time I am afraid.

It's right in the Hard Drive even if you take the hard drive out of the system and put it in another system you still can't look at the data or even fdisk it.
