Unhappy Display Problems

Hi guys, new user hoping someone can help me? I have a Toshiba Satellite 1800, on Windows ME & whilst I was using it recently the screen suddenly blacked out. After several attempts at restarting, the colour came back but the screen had shrunk & the colour & quality was awful.

An error msg came up telling me my Display Driver wasnt working properly & to fix the problem I should install a new one, so I did and it went back to normal & everything seemed to be ok again. It worked fine for a few days but now when I turn it on after the Toshiba logo appears it goes all black again forcing me to shut it down by the power button!

Anyone got any idea's on whats causing this and what I can do to fix the problem? Im useless when it comes to computers, so any help would be great. Thanks.

Here is the Toshiba tech support website. I would try getting new device drivers for your display adapter.

If you are useless when it comes to computers, then you probably don't want to attempt this yourself and should bring it to a qualified individual to have this done. But just incase you do feel like trying this yourself, here are the instructions;
The problem with the backlight turning off intermittently is caused by poor contacts on the FL inverter input connector.
To correct this problem the fl inverter must be removed from the display module.
Once the fl inverter is removed, obtain a aerosol can of contact cleaner from your local electronics store. Wrap the fl inverter in a paper towel so that only the ends are accessible. Spray them with the contact cleaner and be sure to wipe up any spillage or over-spray. Let the fl inverter dry out (give it an hour at most) and reinstall it in the notebook. Re assemble the display and you should be good to go.
