Disable IE
Hello, here's a fun question.
I'm *slowly* making the move from Micro$oft applications to the open source community. Recently, I've made the jump from using IE to using Mozilla Firefox as my web browser.
Now, I'm no sucker for shiny and new, it has to be functional as well. So far, so good. I'm loving the Mozilla application. Now, problem is that even though I've set Firefox as my default browswer, IE still crops up at times. Specifically when I click on a link a friend has sent me in email and such. I'm wondering, with IE being as closely integrated into the OS as it is... Is there a way to stomp IE into obedience and have it NEVER come up at all. I don't want to complete nerf it, as this may have unforseen consequences in the OS...I just want it to sit down, shut up, and color. Let the real browser handle it.
Any input is appreciated! Thanks.

You have to take the exe out of the wpa files.

Ick. I thought you'd say that. I've found some scripts that will do it automatically. (Thankfully, they supply a "reinstall" script too.) http://sillydog.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2677
At least I think they're doing what you said. *scratches head* Just seems a little scary. Oh well, that's what they make Ghost for. :-)
Thanks!

Microsoft recently put out an update (atleast for Windows 2000/XP I believe) that corrects this behaviour. Have a look at Windows Update.
