IBM Thinkpad T40 with three monitors

Hi,

i currently have an IBM laptop but i'd like to add 2 ADDITIONAL monitors to my setup and get multimonitor. Is there a way i can do that by getting a new video card for the laptop? For my desktop i can do so via an AGP card and an additional PCI video card.. any help would be great.

Thanks

Welcome to Windrivers insigma.

Short answer, probably not. Only a few laptops were made with interchangeable slots for graphics.... as far as I am aware none were made with extra slots.

I had that same request for someone that is using a IBM T30. I tried hooking up 2 external monitors using the prot replicator thinking I would have the laptop screen and 2 external 17" Flat Panels. Upon boot up it hung. The only thing I was able to do is the one 17" Flat Panel and the Laptop Screen.

Do they make a "docking station" for the T30 which has PCI Slots? Would you then be able to put a PCI video card in and have all 3 work?

Is there anexternal hardware tah do the splitting of monitors? I remember seeing something in Maximum PC about a 4 monitor set up. And the question would be can a different application be set on each individual monitor.

I found this info on IBM's site doing a search for t40:

The ThinkPad Dock II provides outstanding device flexibility and convenient docking for the ThinkPad X20/30, T20/30/40/41/42, R50* and A20/30* Series notebooks. The ThinkPad Dock II provides port replication plus expansion capability (with an additional Ultrabay 2000 bay, a half-size PCI slot, two PC Card slots, 4 USB 2.0 ports, DVI, keyboard, mouse port, and an integrated power supply). The ThinkPad Dock II supports Gigabit Ethernet, USB 2.0, and DVI pass-through for systems with these technologies. The integrated system tray provides a stable fit and helps to secure your ThinkPad notebook with its Key lock and any devices in the Ultrabay 2000, PCI or PC Card slot when an optional cable lock is used with the ThinkPad Dock II. *(does not support the R40, R40e or A21e).
