    XP Home Attributes Problem

I have just purchased a new laptop with XP Home. The problem I am experiencing is I cannot change the attributes for Program Files and My Documents which are locked as read only.

I have gone to safe mode to try to clear the settings, also tried to edit the registry, and downloaded 3rd party software and all have failed. What can I do?

The folders themselves are owned by 'system' & form part of windows, so they 'must & ought' to be there, the files inside those folders may be 'owned' by individuals & shouldn't be read-only {or not all of them anyway, some program installs might make certain files that way in 'program files' - but everything in 'my documents' should be 'alterable' by someone with sufficient admin privaledge to take hold of anyones files} ..

Rights management is a bit 'weird' with xp home due to 'simple sharing' but I'm loathe to start telling you about that until I 'get' your intent ..

What are you actually trying to accomplish ?
