Missing Operating System
My boss just called to tell me that when he restarted his computer this afternoon, it posted the message
Missing Operating System
He says that he shut it down normally, but when he powered up the computer this morning he got the message. This is a 3 month old, high end, Toshiba notebook running XP Pro.
Any suggestions as to where to look.

Could be a few things OldBob. You need to be there with an XP cd to fix this. Then troubleshoot it from there.
Also: being that it is only three months old, if it is hardware related, although unlikely from the info given, make Toshiba work for their warranty if you know what I mean: just don't let them format the disk if there is anything on it, which they'll be likely to suggest.

Does he have a floppy or a bootable cd in? Check the bios to see where it boots from

It is going to Toshiba, and I'll do my best to make them work. If I do find out what the problem is/was, I'll update the thread. Thanks to all.
