AOV 7VLR Problem

I recently downgraded from WinXP Pro to WinXP Home.

On my previous installation, my monitor was listed as AOC 7V[Monitor] and was running at 1600x1200 resolution without a problem.

After the downgrade, and installing the drivers for the monitor i am no longer able to use screen resolutions above 1024x768.

The only difference i can see is that my drivers are now listed as "AOC Spectrum 7Vlr".

According to the manufacturer this monitor only supports 1024x768 but i konw this to be untrue as i was running at 1600x1200 for several months without a problem.

The graphics card being used is an NVIDIA GeForce FX5200 (PCI) so there should not be an issue with the graphics card itself.

Can anyone help me find the correct driver/settings to be able to run at 1600x1200 again ? In particular the Frequency required (currently set to 85Mhz)

What nvidia driver are you using?

Mmm so I dunno why Noo is telling you about other video drivers ?

The 'size' of display is limited by two things, the video driver (will support by product a maximum resolution, a 5200 can definately do 1600x1200) but ALSO its affected by what the monitor is reporting back or being found by windows as described 'under a load of computer nerd goobledegook' called 'vesa ddc compliance'.

So the long & the short of that is that what windows 'thinks it has as monitor' can limit the maximum resolution viewable too - co-incidentally the maximum resoultion for 'default monitor' is 1024 x768 which is XGA standard -try changing the monitor to be '1600 x 1200' or 'plug & play' & see if that helps.

If the monitor manufacturer is supplying an 'inf' (its driver file, which says maximum resolution is 1024x768) this may be stopping it working 'as you wish', as far as refresh rates go, just start with 60 & try each higher refresh to see what your monitor can support.

NOTE though, that the reason why the maufacturer is limiting the maximum resoltion will be because they got too many returns from any operated above that level, so you are on your own with this suggestion, as it may invalidate any warranties etc, short periods of 'too fast' (when testing) won't cause permanent damage, but if you've had it going at that for 6 months, your unit must be ok at that ..

It is possible that windows has mis-identified your monitor. Take a look at this http://www.nam.aocdisplay.com/suppor..._popup_xp.html, which shows you how to manually select the monitor. However, according to this http://www.aoc-europe.com/monitors_7Vlr.html, the maximum resolution of the 7vlr is 1280x1024. Assuming that you monitor documentation indicates that your monitor is capable of 1600x1200, go to the Monitor tab in Display Properties and uncheck the box "Hide modes that this monitor cannot display".
