Unhappy BIOs flashing blues..please help me!!!

    Hey there,

Have some problems with my system clock; "CMOs checksum error - Defaults loaded" is the error i get whenever i boot. Since CDROM is not in default boot devices - i'm not able to boot from the CDROM.

Tried changing the battery but in vain. So, finally had to make a tough decision to flash it.

Tried flashing with award utilities (awd66.exe and ctflashc.exe) and the update file being vkb0524b.bin

    My bios ID is 02/23/2001-KOB-815e-FSX-KOB815eC-00

    Bios version : Award 6.00PG

I booted up using a win98 bootdisk. when I ran the utility for the first time (ctflashc.exe) nothing happened. so i re-booted the comp and ran the utility (awd66.exe), it showed a checksum and then an error "Unknown Flash Type".

Then I rebooted again and ran "ctflashc.exe", but nothing happened - except for showing up checksum and blinking cursor.

So, I got some important questions here:

1)Can I use AMI bios flashing utility for Award Bios?
2)How much time does flashing generally take?
3)Please guide me how to flash successfully.
4)Tell me if the update (.bin) file is the right one.

waiting for your replies... Very unhappy

    1. I don't think so. Usually you can only flash the bios with a program designed by the writer of the BIOS. If it's an award bios, use the award flash utility.

    2. Usually it's done within 30 seconds.

3-4. What kind of motherboard is this?

    1. Yes! GigaByte, for example, call AMIflash utility as Universal Flash utility...
    2. About 30 secs (depends on chip size and anabled flash options).
    3. I remember was good step-by-step instruction "how to" at Gigabyte site, but probably already gone... wait... found something... http://tw.giga-byte.com/MotherBoard/...oReflash_1.htm
    4. We don't even know yet, what the motherboard do you have...

    Thanks everybody for your replies.
Got the latest image file from the motherboard website. Still my flashing procedure stops when i enter the new bios image file name. Does this have anything to do with BIOS JUMPER settings ? I don't have my mother board manual. So, I need some help from you guys to check the jumper settings.

motherboard make : Kobian 815e FSX

    and one more question:
Does version no. of flashing utility matter? I mean i have awd66.exe on my motherboard CD and i downloaded awd822.exe from www.kobian.com. Does it really matter which version of flashing utility is being used? or is it like " the latest version is the best"

    Thanks all for the help.
My problem is finally solved! that too without flashing the bios.
It's kinda weird. i removed the cmos jumper from the motherboard, and voila it's working fine - the cd rom is booting, perfect time and all..

    tnx anyway
