Camcorder to computer stills program?

I'm having a terrible time finding the kind of program I need. I want to transfer digital Sony camcorder video to single stills on my Sony Vaio. I can find lots of programs that go from the PC to the camcorder, or to DVDs, etc., or from the camcorder to video on the PC--I need STILLS ONLY!

Any help out there? I used the Sony program very happily for a couple of years until it crashed and burned a few weeks ago. I'm unable to repair the software (won't display, but will control the camera), so I either want a new program or a fix to the old. I've got the firewire, card, etc.

Remember, I need camcorder to PC stills only--don't care about the rest. Programs? Help with the Sony problem? TIA

I seem to remember you run windows 98 and that you have the sony dv capture program. Does it have a frame grabber?

what version of dvgate was it? there is an upgrade here

Can you not reinstall dvgate? Can we have some details about what version you have?
