[FONT=Comic Sans MS][SIZE=3]Hello, I can't get my cd rom to read audio cd's. Of course the warranty just went out on my computer and I can no longer get tech support. If anyone can help me, it would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to WD tuckerml .
Have you checked in DeviceManager if it says it working or has a problem ?
Does any other type of CDs work ? (like game , data CDs)

Games and program cd's work. Device manager says it's working, but it wont play either store bought or home burned audio cd's.

My son downloaded Windows Media Player 9 could that have anything to do with why my cd rom won't play now?

By "not playing" do you mean not automatically launching windows media player and playing the cd?
If you open windows media player, click file, open and navigate to your cd rom, will it play it then?

Windows Media Player will not launch. But what I meant was my cd-rom is set to automatically play a cd when I put it in. All I want to do is listen to my cd's while I am online. The yellow light comes on when I put it in, and it acts like its going to play, but the little cd icon never comes up on the screen, the yellow light goes off and nothing else happens. I usually use real player to play my cd's but that wont work either. When I right click on the icon for my cd rom and click play it doesn't work. When I click open and click on the tracks and click play it still doesn't work. It does work on all other cd's. But when it's an audio cd nothing happens.

Okay by some stroke of luck I got my cd rom to play a cd. I ran a search for Windows Media Player one of the files it showed was MPLAYER.EXE, I right clicked on it and clicked open. It popped up a small window that said cd audio media player, under devices I clicked cd audio, then clicked the play button, and it worked. So at least I know my there isn't something wrong with my cd rom. So now can someone please tell me how to get it back to where I dont have to go through all those steps just to listen. I still cannot get Window Media Player to open by clicking on it from the start menu.

You could try re-download WMP-9 here ;
http://windowsmedia.microsoft.com/9s...d/download.asp
sounds like it didn't install correctly or something .

But at the very least I can listen to my music, and I know I don't have to replace my cd-rom. Yeah!!!!!
