    Weird one with DVD

I have a client with a Samsung DVD-ROM. 1 year old Dell PC with XP - P4 512 Ram. Never had it on the internet. They acually bought 6 of them. 5 of them play DVD's fine but 1 will not. It shows up as an Audio CD in My Computer. The DVD will play on the other PC's. Also, all CD's including MS OfficeXP show up as Audio CD. I bought her a new DVD from Staples and installed it but no luck. I removed the drivers and reloaded with same result. I don't think it's a virus...their network has never been on the internet and they don't bring any type of disks from outside or home. They have 1 year old McAfee too. Weird. The DVD drive shows up properly in Device Manager (actully both of them did). I'm out of ideas...

if a drive swap didn't fix it then the issue is probably with the controller on board or with the windows installation. . . .

did they buy 6 dvd players of the same make, or 6 identical computers? if the later, then swap a hard drive from one of the other computers to see if the problem is software related. if it still occurs, you probably have it nailed down to the mainboard controller.

No they bought 6 of the same computer with the DVD "factory" installed. The PC's are Dells. All of the drives are Samsung.

Great idea on the hard drive. If they'll let me, I'll try that.

    Thanks!
