    Demote NT4 BDC???

I need to demote a NT4 BDC to a member server without reinstalling the OS. I know that M$ says NO, but there is a tool (UPromote) that does it. The domain has 2 Win2K AD + 2 NT4 BDC. Unfortunately I need something that is free. Any suggestions anyone???

I'm pretty certain that a friend of mine had to do this once. I emailed him for details.

Well, since switching the value from 3 (PDC) to 2 (BDC) in that key works in changing the server role, perhaps there is another value to use for a member server.

I'm getting close.. as a matter of fact i did it on a fresh (no SP) install, now I'm checking the implications...
Indeed, it lies in the registry, but it has to be done with an offline registry editor... it won't let you do it while windows is running... still digging.

I downloaded the app and started the installation with ne referrences made to payment or registration. It may be an older version though.

It will run in a demo mode unless you register it, tried it before getting into this registry hacking.
