Are they USB or PS2? I had an issue with XP and my PS2 ports when I tried installing the Microsoft Intellitype/Intellipoint software on my machine. It effectivly killed my PS2 ports and would not work in windows. I had to switch to USB ones to get them to work. I eventually reformatted my machine and was able to use the PS2 ports again.
