Exclamation Network issues with SP2 when server is Win 98SE.

Network issues with SP2 when server is Win 98SE.

    Four system computer network.
1 Server: Win98SE (client needs DOS for legacy polling)
    1 Workstation: Win98SE
    2 Workstations: WinXP

One XP workstation installed SP2 - connection to the Win98SE Server is gone. Third party s/w vendor said, not their problem and to uninstall XP2. MS has several options to uninstall - client chose [add/remove] from the control panel.

Connection to the server is still not working from the XP workstation after SP2 uninstalled....

    suggestions?

    ==============
That's right, a mapped drive cannot be made becuase XP says the SERVER doesn't exsist. I ran Network Wizard again and still no luck.

The firewall settings remain at default even though the sp is uninstalled. It can still be blocking the connection.

Oh really ? - well ta ! well that explains that bit then

Look Billy wrote a Kb on it, maybe this'll be helpful, then ..
server applications that are running on a Windows XP SP2-based computer may not respond to client requests. Following are some examples:
A Web server such as Internet Information Services (IIS)
    Remote Desktop
    File Sharing
from this (Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 842242 - Some programs seem to stop working after you install Windows XP Service Pack 2 )..

    Ooo! A KB article!

    Hey thanks guys...

I'll look deeper into the firewall that is left behind and into the new Knowledge Base article.

I'll report back what works, what doesn't!

    cheers ~ mrpickle
