Sure. In Win98, you can just go into the registry and change it to anything you like, once Windows is finished with the installation. I have no idea why someone would want to do this in 98, however.

Its not the code which makes it legal but the ownership of a licence to run the software.

Ok here's a program that everyone should have, Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder now to get some additional features(like changing the key) you need to download the beta that found hidden on his website that is located here http://www.magicaljellybean.com/beta/kf15b3.zip

Here's some info on the program from the website:
The Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder is a freeware utility that retrieves your Product Key (cd key) used to install windows from your registry. It has the options to copy the key to clipboard, save it to a text file, or print it for safekeeping. It works on Windows 95, 98, ME, NT4, 2000, XP, Server 2003, Office 97, and Office XP. This version is a quick update to make it work with Windows Server 2003.

    Hope this helps!

    Cool key-code change.

Keyfinder.exe. Let's you View and Change windows keycodes. I personally have used on 98,98se,and XP home. Do a search for it, or pm me with your email and I'll send you a copy. File is 256kb, very small.
