    Ammo question

    Ok, looking at rounds for my .44 special, seeing some that are cowboy load.

    What the heck is that?

    Normally they are low velocity loads.

    Typically 25-30% slower than normal rounds.

    Lower velocity means lower penetration which makes the round less likely to go busting through the bad guy, the wall behind him, and your kid. Lethality and stopping power aren't comprimised at close range as a low velocity round that stops in a guy does more damage than a high velocity round that goes straight through him.

    A cowboy load is a lead bullet loaded with NORMAL black powder, not pyrodex or any thing else.

    This infomation comes from a member of the single actin shooters club (a buddy of mine)
