Toshiba SD-R CD-RW/DVD-ROM

Hey, i was hoping someone could help me out here. i have a HP Pavilion ze1210 Laptop PC with (as far as i can tell) a Toshiba SD-R2212 CD-RW/DVD-ROM combo drive. right now i'm training to be a computer service tech, but CD-ROM drives are something i try really hard not to deal with. give me scsi anyday. anyways, my problem is that it will not recognize burned or blank CDs but when i put in a factory copy of something, it works flawlessly. all of my associates have no idea what to do, i don't know what to do. i'm on the verge of insanity. my first thought was drivers, but everywhere i look, no drivers for this drive.

What OS are you running? Here is a link to Software updates and drivers for your laptop one update is for the burnning software and depending on your OS there maybe firmware for the bdrw/dvd drive.

The PC isn't mine. its a costomer. i have no idea where they got it. its running XP. problem is, it has so many viruses that there is no way i'm connecting it to my network. so i would have to download them to a file and save them on a thumb drive or something. i work on that. thanks for the information

nunob. it runs XP on it. thanks for the link, but i checked it. nothing of any help. it has things for the BIOS and other things, but nothing for the CD drive. i've tried to uninstall and reinstall, but still didn't work. i'm beginning to think the lens is bad or something. i may have to get another one. that would mean dealing with the customer. yikes. well, thanks for the info all.
