HP EasyNote M5 Driver Problem.

Hi Folks,

I have a HP EasyNote M5 laptop. I have just installed XP Pro. But the Dual DVD/CD burrner doesn't work fully and their is no sound except system sounds.

When I try to use the DVD player in some cases it works but with no sound but in others it comes up error code 28.

I need drivers for my DVDRW/CDRW! And drivers for the soundcard!!!

Have searched via google and can't find anything... so need help!!!

The drivers I need are for a Mat****a UJDA750 DVD/CDRW.

Also need Audio Codecs, Legacy Audio Drivers, Media Control Drivers, Legacy Video Capture Devices, Video Codecs, etc. etc.

Also on my device manger it comes up with ! next to the Other devices for Multimedia Audio Controllers, PCI Modem, and Unknown device.

Not sure what model the modem and soudcard are as XP doesn't recognise them!

Can you help?

Thanks,

Herne's Magister.

PS. I have the HP software library disc (DVD rom) but can't use it as the DVD can't decode it!!!

I think possibly you might have a little closer look at the laptop.
I am not able to find any "HP" Easynote laptops
The only ones I can find are PB Packard Bell
Such as this one PACKARD BELL EasyNote M5 255
It has a number at the end which is needed as well

Hi Ferit & All,

Apologies... ha, ha, yes! Yes it is a Packard Bell EasyNote M5 (M5263)... sorry about that one I was a little tired when I posted to the forum... after getting home and trying to rack my brains in regards to the problem with the laptop after working a night-sift.

Still haven't sorted the problem, so I'd appreciate advice... thanks to all in advance.

The main problem that I have is that it lists in the device manager in Other devices my Multimedia Audio Controller, PCI Modem, and an Unknown device as unknown.

And it won't update the drivers for them via my XP Pro disk or via an auto-update via the internet.

So I need a little help and advice... thanks to all!!!

Regards,

Herne's Magister.

Hi hernesmagister,

Welcome to WinDrivers!

You can find Drivers & Software for your EasyNote M5 series here.

Ideally, you shouldn't have any devices listed under "Other Devices". Everything should be properly identified and listed under it's appropriate category...such as sound controllers, ports, modem, etc. And, definitely, no Unknown Devices.

I would make sure that you have downloaded all of the drivers from the link above, ensure that you have the latest BIOS from the link above and try again. I would boot into Safe Mode, Remove all of the offending devices in Device Manager, reboot and let Windows find all of the devices again. You will have to point or Browse to the location of your downloaded drivers.

Hopefully, everything will start flying for you.

Good Luck!

So Don has given you links which include a soundcard driver for this beastie & a modem driver, so just a note to say that your 'unknown device' is most probably a 'wave device' as the modem in this pc is both data & voice, so hopefully when you get the drivers for that installed it'll show correctly as its part of the modem.

& Btw - under all versions of windows from 98 on, you don't need drivers for any CD/DVD device to play it (you may need things called codecs to view dvd content, which come with dvd player s/w which I think will work ok in your case once you've got a working soundcard) all of these types of devices using 'atapi.sys' to 'go'. But if you want to write with these kinds of devices you often need one then (windows xp has a one size fits all one for cd's) but generally this comes in your cd/dvd writing package & as soon as you've got one of those installed (Nero being a well known example), then you've got a driver for the burning bit.
