Unhappy Sony Vaio PCG-V505BX Drivers lost! GERMANY

    BIG Problem!

I just bought this Vaio two days ago. Basically, I am happy, but I did not get any recovery software. E.G. I have no possibility to get my display brightness right. I can hardly read from it. Can I download drivers somewhere? Sony just offers updates and some drivers (e.g. ATI) but not the needed ones. The problem has been discussed here earlier, but the LINK doens't work. Who can help me?

Check the list of contents for the notebook. It may be that the notebook does not come with a recovery cd or any media at all. Some manufacturers are supplying a recovery partition, not recovery media.

If this is the case and you really really need to get the recovery media, you should be able to contact sony and have them ship the software to you for the cost of shipping.

Why would need the recovery media to change any system settings is beyond me though, unless the first thing you did was fdisk the thing and install your own copy of xp on it.

    Thanks for the idea...

    Hi Damned Angel, hi everyone

I also had the idea of @what the f**k is the seller doing fdisking the whole harddsik and installing his own (unregistered) copy of XP!? He just remarked that there are no problems getting the drivers over the net, so I wouldn"t need any recovery software.

But, truely, I do now need it. I wrote to Sony, but they just said I should go to Sony Europe; but Sony Europe says that they have no drivers for this notebook, 'cause it is american! Bloody thing, isn't it. I got it from eby, so I don't really think of getting help.

If there is somebody out there who has this recovery software whatever, please csend me a copy or a link..

You can find PCG-V505BX Software Updates and Drivers here.

Is there where you downloaded your ATI update?

Also, notice the BIOS Update towards the bottom of that webpage as well as several WinXP updates.

Also, notice the links on the left for FAQ's, Documentation, etc.

    Hope this helps out...Good Luck!

Lightbulb A step in the right direction...

    Hi everyone!

It appears as if this link was good. I have been there several times, but some programmes or updates have not been there. Since now!

More ideas like this and I am safe!

    Thanks a lot!

From the link I provided you above, there are two video files to download. Towards the bottom of that page, there is a "ATI® Mobility™ Radeon™ Graphics Controller Driver"...towards the middle, there is a "ATI® Mobility™ Radeon™ Graphics Controller Driver Update". I would install the original driver and then the update.

Also, there is a Firmware Update available for the Matsush|ta® UJDA745 DVD/CD-RW Drive .

Your DVD drive will act like a normal CDROM drive without any software such as Nero or RealPlayer. What were you using before to read DVD's? There is a RealNetworks® RealPlayer® Update available.

If what you are actually trying to set is your display brightness, not the definition or number of colors, then the setting is either a key or key combination on the keyboard, not anything in the operating system
