Help!!!!!
Hello.
I am new to this site & I have to say it's very helpful. I am in the U.K. and yesterday, I took delivery of an NEC ND6500A Dual Layer DVD Writer, for my Laptop. I installed the writer no problem, but there was no software (no drivers, instructions or anything) delivered with the product. Just the Drive itself. Anyway, it works fine when reading the Original Source DVD. And it works with 4x sindle Layer DVD+R But, when I load a Dual Layer (Verbatim) 2.4x 8.5GB DVD+R into the drive, it does not recognise the media. In Win explorer, it doesn't even indicate that there is disc in the drive. I am running XP Professional. And I am thinking that it is because i need to install some sort of software (NEC Drivers, or Firmware) for the drive. But I don't know. I am not very 'computer savvy' and don't really know what to do next. I have searched for ND6500A drivers on the net, with no success. I am stuck & I need some help!! Please, can anyone out there help me??? It will be very very much appreciated. |

Well as far as I know the only drivers you need to run that are built into windows . Hence why it reads cdroms.
As to recognizing dual layer media you mifght try the free nero download and see if that enables it www.nero.com

You could try going to the company's website. Many company's sites have their drivers available for download.

Is the disk blank or does it have data on it? Do you have a recording software package such as Roxio or Nero? Is that the only disc that you've tried so far? DL disk technology is fairly new, and the quality of the media is quite important for compatiblility. Their website mentions these as compatible: Quote:

From NEC's website:
http://support.necsam.com/oem/cd-rom/ND6500A.asp Trip listed some of the Compatible Writing Software but it looks like it also requires Windows(R) XP Home, Professional(SP2). Do you have SP2 installed? Just another suggestion...Good Luck! |
