please help no sound cd or media player
i removed xp and went back to 98 i have my reasons problem is i cant hear any sound playing cd or thru media player on line have tried differnt drivers from install disc and maker web site. and have tried driver.com still have same
problem cd player says cant find hardware but control panel says everything
is good to go iam using cmi8738/c3dx pci sound card win98 media player 7.1
tried windows update also any help would be very appreciated

Well.........................
Does device manger show the card installed under sound? If so, open sound properties and make sure that the volume sliders are turned up and that the mute check box is not checked. If the card does not show in device manager, you will need to install the driver for it look here Good luck and please post results.

no sound cd \media player
reply to irish shark the driver does show up in the hardware manager in the
sound but the only thing i see is CMI18738/C3DXPCI think there should be
another driver something with media in it not sure funny thing i have sound
thru windows when you go in sound properties and put a sound on asterisk
or any others you can hear sound just no sound thru cd player or media player
has error saying hardware not installed have tried removing card and removing
from system then reinstalling it still no good think something missing from
controllers have the CMI18738/C3DXPCI and gameport and wave device voice
modem shouldnt there be some kind media device for the media player
thank you for any help i can get

The original CD player that shipped with Win98 requires that the audio wire between the CD/DVD-ROM drive and the sound card be connected. Your media player should play OK though. Go to control panel and look under Multimedia Properties. Make sure that you have the right hardware attached to these options. Once sure, click on the speaker icon next to preffered device and check that the sliders are all in the right place and that the checkmark are not on the mute to the CD or the WAVE device. From the master volume control, you can click on options along the top and choose properties. Put a check mark next to all the audio options you want to be able to control with a slider. Once selected, make sure none a re muted.

a fix i think
downloaded driver from c-media and that kind of fix the problem everything
is working now but when i just checked it all the controllers that i loaded were
gone had to reload them they are the legacy driver and the 401 emulator dont
know why they werent there or where they went but will check them later and see thanks for your help and wish me luck
