If you know how to do it and are not worried about voiding a warranty - contact HP and find out local repair places that handle their printers, then see if you can but one.

If not, still contact HP and find where it can be repaired.

If the fan is easily accessable, you might want to blow some air into it (from a can of compressed air).

agreed with daggar. also, once you blow the dust out of it, peel the sticker off the back side of the fan and add a drop of 3in1 oil or similar. this will lubricate the bearings again and greatly reduce the noise. Also works for case , psu and cpu fans.

Go here for the Parts Breakdown for the LaserJet 5. Click on All Parts...looks like there is one primary cooling fan and another if you have the Duplex Assy installed.

You can also go down to the drop down menu for View a Parts Diagram...the main cooling fan is show in Internal Components (2 of 4). Looks like HP's price is $45 for that bad boy...you might be able to find a suitable substitute at your local electronics parts store (not Rat Shack.) Or, you might try http://www.parts-now-laser-printer.com/ we have used them in the past with very good results.

    Good Luck!

I changed many fans on Laserjet 4's and 5's. You must take off the top cover and the formatter cage and then the fan comes off. Pretty simple. Warning the last fan that I bought was $56!!!! similar in contruction to ones at Rat Shack, but 24 volt ,not 12 any questions email me at [email protected].....
