    Welcome to Windrivers Johnr

I am assuming these films are home movies which you have burned to DVDs because copying DVDs that you buy is illegal.

Have you tried playing a shop bought DVD in your computer? Do you have a program called PowerDVD or WinDVD? From what you have said so far, it sounds like you lack the software to play the DVD. If you haven't www.videolan.org have a freeware basic DVD player which you can install.

What software are you using to create the DVDs?

OK. You have Roxio software, so I assume you are using DVD Builder to create the file structure and Roxio's DVD software player to play it? If you are attempting to copy commercial DVDs we are dealing with a whole different set of issues. In fact, depending on where you live, making backup copies of DVDs you own may be perfectly legal. Not to mention smart. Particularly if you have young children with DVD players.

I don't know of any software issues with your product that might cause this problem with home movies, but lots of DVD drives have trouble reading discs they have burned on some brands of media or if the recording speed is set too high. Keep the burn at 4x or less, and buy media that exceeds that spec and comes from good manufacturers like Memorex, Sony, etc. You may even have a hardware problem with the burner, as CD and DVD burners have separate laser systems for reading and burning discs. Try one of your burned DVDs in another computer. If it plays, I would say you have a bad burner.

Agreed slgrieb... but John what exactly happens when you put in one of your burned DVDs?

In my computer, does the icon change at all when you put a disk in? Can you explore the dvd (right click on the dvd icon choose explore)?

It occured to me that it may read it, just not autoplay it...

Kycoo, I answered you on your own thread. Please by all means monitor this thread, but keep your questions in your own so that johnr doesn't get advice meant just for you.

Johnr there is a firmware update here however, you must understand that firmware updates can go wrong and render the drive useless. "Match more media" is pretty informative as far as update descriptions go - it is worth a try.

    Hi john

Have you tried any other Burning software or good manufacturers discs (ie Memorex, Sony, Dysan, etc)?
