Problem With Front Panel Audio Asus A7v8x-x mobo...
hey guys Im new here been reading up on some info and thought I would join.
I am trying to get the front panel audio jacks to work along with my 5.1 digital sound on my asus motherboard.
when i connected the front headphone jacks the front speakers on the 5.1 setup wont work anymore.
the microphone works fine as mic 2, but when i removed the jumper from the left and right channel fp audio there was no sound from 2 speakers.
is that how it is? is there a way to utilize both the rear and front audio jacks?
i am using the onboard soundcard soundmax....
and the soundmax software...I have a sb live sound card in another puter but not sure if its any better or if its 5.1.
I bought my son a headset for online gaming and I want to connect it to the front and keep my 5.1 speakers set up for me, even if I have to switch through software.
thanks for any info
Dave

Hello Dave and Welcome to Windrivers
Asus is down for maintenance, but I would refer you to the motherboard manual for clarification on the issue. Some motherboards swap automatically depending on what is plugged in, some have to be jumpered and some can be configured via the audio properties applet in control panel. Which your's is I don't know.
Are you wanting to keep the headphones plugged in all the time and still have 5.1 sound?

If it auto dectects, the act of plugging in the headphones will cancel the 5.1.
Is there a headphone socket on the speakers?
