SCANMAKER 3700 & XP

Hi! I have a Microtek 3700 scanner using the ScanWizard 5.76 software. When using my scanner under Win XP Home the scanner scans and then stops reponding then I can no longer use the scanner until I restart the computer and somtimes it takes a few restarts to get it working but problems presist.

Having looked at the Microtek website the drivers and software that I am using are compatible with XP so where am I going wrong?.

I have the same combo without any issues. However, in device manager, is your scanner being properly identified as a Microtek ScanMaker 3700 under Imaging Devices? Or, as a USB Device under Other Devices? If the latter, you need to update that USB Device with the proper INF file in the Scanmaker installed folder on your HD....

Te scanner is being identified correctly in device manager asnd all the drivers seem fine.

Update your USB drivers? Flash the BIOS for improved USB functions? I've had USB device problems like you report with ASUS Motherboards that I solved by adding a USB hub with its own power supply. ASUS had some problems with proper voltages....

Would this not be a hardware or software issue rather than the USB drivers because all my other USB devces work fine.

The latest BIOS for my motherboard dosen't have any updates for USB devices it just fixes issues with Windows Me

Not having my own eyes and hands on your system, I would never say never....however when having some of the problems you're facing I did have other USB devices that were still working fine. It may be that you have something entirely different going on. I have one USB device that absolutely will not work (XP freezes up tighter that an ice age) if I plug it in with Outlook Express open (Windowed or minimized). If I need to use the device I have to remember to close OE first--then all is fine. With so many variables just about anything is possible. When faced with the unusual, sometimes the solution only comes by having the imagination to try something that couldn't possibly work. Use msconfig to turn things off. Use the Admin Management tools to turn off all non-critical services.....the only certainty at this point is that something isn't right....Good Luck.
