New DVD drive not appearing on My Computer

OK, i have tried everything on this. Tonight i just bought a new DVD Burnner to upgrade from my CD Burnner and DVDROM Drive. I pulled the two out and placed the new DVD Burnner in. Nothing shows up, and i double checked the conections, then went through device managment looking for red or yellow flags. I didnt find any, so i went ahead and uninstalled the drives and restarted and still nothing shows up. I also tried the Filter Regedit trick, but it didnt work either. I know its not the drive because it shows up in BIOS and on start up. Another odd thing is that i put the other drives back in just to see what would happen, and it read everything right away...Im thinking its something to do with the drive letters were assigned specifiacally for those drives and its conflicting. I dont know how to fix this if that is the problem, so can someone please help..Thanx

have you checked in disk management.
To go there Right click on 'My Computer' :>Click 'Manage' :>Click on + before Storage click 'Disk Management' and look for drives in Right pane..see if DVD has not been assigned a drive letter if so right click on it and assign drive letter.

Remove Drive Letters for all the drives except C drive and reboot. On start up check if DVD Burner is there. if yes goto Disk Management and add/modify drive letters for all the logical and optical drives

It might be the jumper setting on the DVD drive is set wrong, you might want to try setting it for " Master " or " Cable Select " depending upon your motherboard settings.

Can you get your machine to boot from the dvd drive, using your windoze cd ? (that'll 'prove' the wiring & jumper settings are ok & then we know if its a hardware or software problem).
