Black and White
I have an Epson Stylus Colour 300. I have installed it. I used the driver which came with Win XP. I can`t get colour or a resolution higher than 300 x 300 when the printer is supposed to be 720 x 720.

Flabooble!
I can't find that model on their site. Sure it's not a different model?
Go here: http://www.epson.co.uk/ and find the updated driver for your model and use it and that may fix you up.

I'd say while in the settings, check to see if there is a different area for quality, like a 'good' 'better' 'best' quality. Also, some printers limit the DPI if you're printing on regular paper, select photo paper and see if that helps.
If not, follow ilovetheusers' suggestion, see if Epson has an update driver, or a fresh new driver (better choice). If its an update, run it. If its a completly new driver, remove the printer from your printers (start - settings- printers) and uninstall the software, then install the new drivers.
If all esle fails, return it and buy an HP.
