    Using Windows Checkdisk by Partition Magic

    Hi,
    I have used Windows Checkdisk option in Partition Magic 8.05 to check my drive C:.In the scan,i found this:"Warning! F parameter not specified.Running CHKDSK in read-only mode.Errors found CHKDSK cannot continue in read-only mode".I am running on windows XP Pro serv.Pk2 and the file system for this volume C is NTFS.Pls advice.Thank you!

    You should always run chkdsk ( & a defrag!) before any re-sizing or 'disk management' like you describe.

    All partition magic is telling you here is that, without you telling it to make any files sytem changes it (chkdsk) thinks are needed permanent - then it won't (make them permanent, it'll just report those errors).

    So what you need to do, is exit PM, restart in windows normal mode, & then run chkdsk from there ticking both option boxes (fix errors permanently & scan free space for 'lost' data) & then reboot - the scan should execute as you restart ..

    You could also execute 'chkdsk /f' yourself from a command prompt, but generally windows has a load of files 'in use' when you do this (there are ways around it) & so running chkdsk the way I described from inside windows, is probably the simplest answer - all it wants 'really' is confirmation that it should make any 'fixes stick'
