Outlook 2003 SP2 BCM Ph.book logs & contacts not loading after MS Update KB902400
In Windows XP Pro SP2, the Windows Firewall service was not starting, network connections folder was empty, COM+ applications weren’t starting (Outlook 2003 Phone book logs not showing). The cryptographic service failed to initialize the VSS backup. Business contact manager failed to load contacts and phonebook logs.
The MS Update "KB902400" automatic update failed to install properly resulting in applications not being able to access the COM+ catalog files because the default permissions on the COM+ catalog directory and files have been changed from their default settings.
The COM+ catalog files have .cbl extensions and are located in the windows\registration folder. So I have changed the permissions of the folder for “Administrators” to have full control, “System” to have full control and “everyone” to have read access and re-installed KB902400 update and magically all is working.
