Compaq + Win98 and an HP printer
I am trying to get a Compaq running Win 98 to use an HP 5si/NX. I get an error that says the LPT1 is in use/not found/etc.
I called HP (clueless), Compaq (just as clueless) My solution that is a jimmy rig solution was to delete the Infared LPT port in the BIOS, and then also removeit in the Hardware cfg. It will work 90% of the time now....on an HP 4 plus. Won't work at all on the 5si/NX. Anyone run into a similar problem? I assume it is a combination Compaq, Win 98 (unsupported with that printer right now), and it is a Friday! :-) Thanks |

I forgot to mention that I am using a parallel cable! It works fine on the network, but it is needed on site at fundraising events.
I remeber the days when you just plugged in the printer, turn on the printer in print! geez. hehehe Have a great weekend. |

You forgot to tell me if it plug in to desktop or laptop. Just for kick. Try modified printer property.Click at Detail and click Spool Setting. Check on Print direct to Printer. Your LPT port will be online.
