IBM Personal Computer 300PL, Model 6565-97A
I'm hoping someone can help me -
I reformatted my DD's computer, which we had been given "as is", with no discs etc. I reinstalled Win98SE (which I had bought only a week prior), however I can't get the sound to work.
There is no volume icon in the system tray, and no sound devices are listed in Device Manager. There is an unknown device listed, which I'm assuming is the sound card - PCI Multimedia. I can't install it, as Windows can't find the drivers I need, and I don't know where to look.
The sound used to work prior to the reformat, so something must be able to be fixed. The computer does give the POST test beep, and can play a music CD; just no system sounds.
I did run the Belarc advisor, and it doesn't list any audio devices either. I tried searching on the IBM site, but it doesn't have any documents to match the computer (too old probably...), and a google search has been fruitless.
Hope I've given enough information to make a start with.

Platypus has already pointed you in the right direction as always .
I only noticed this was specific to win98se.

This is supposed to be the other possible driver for Win98se.

Thanks street, I hadn't noticed my link was for the .VXD drivers.
Glenda, try the download street1 has linked to for preference, and only use my link if your system has problems with those drivers.

Thank you, that did the trick!
I wonder why my search there didn't find anything...
Now to save those drivers onto a CD, for use if I ever need to reformat that computer again.
My DD will be pleased when she comes home again to a "noisy" computer!

Glad you got the result, Glenda.
As for searches, they're funny things, sometimes someone else's approach just does the trick... as street's result demonstrated.
