no audio device
PCI soundcard installed, no system errors shown, no audio device detected. I tried booting in safe mode, uninstalling card, restarting, detected card, but still will not use the card. Tried three different cards, same results with different PCI slots on mb. Tried disabling audio property under sound/hardware/audio/c-media 8738 and applying, no help. Any suggestions?
Thanks

Well first off it does detect it as an audio device on boot right?
Do you have the correct drivers for it?
What windows system?

Welcome to Windrivers-patchnet.
Can you disable the on/board sound in the BIOS?

Motherboard has no on-board sound, it has the correct drivers and is recognized and is not a conflict according to XP Pro device manager. It simply will not allow it to be used, other functions appear normal.

Yes, I also tried downloading the same driver from website of manufacturer in case I had a corrupted install disk. I then went to store and replaced driver CD with different one, same results. The driver appears OK, just XP refuses to assign sounds to the card.
