HDD Wipe
All,
I am about do do a clean wipe of my Hard Drive using Killdisk. As this is the first time I have done this, can someone give me a rough play by play on how to get set back up after I run the eraser program?
I have the recovery disk for XP and know to reinstall the OS off the bootable CD. Is there anything else I should know before proceeding?
Thanks,
Greg

If possible I would backup all of my data, make sure I have all of the software disks and serial numbers for any programs I need to re-install after the format. Also any 3rd party drivers or disks that I needed. After the format I would go to windows update and update XP to the fullest. Then I would re-install programs, and then copy the data back over. Also, you should be able to format your computer from your XP disk if you didn't want to use killdisk.

Well it varies from brand to brand, but after you wipe the disk you should be able to insert recovery disk 1 or the windows recovery disk and it will allow you to set up the partition and format the drive.
If your system has a built in restore such as HP/Compaq where it has a secondary partition with the restore data I would not wipe the entire drive. I would just run the recovery and go to the advanced options to format the drive.
