emu 1212 s/pdif not working
Im trying to record some stuff, so i have a roland vs-840 with a mic atached and im using a radioshack PCM digital audio cable from the rolands digital coax out to the s/pdif in on the card. problem is patchmix is not getting a reading so no sound coming in. this used to work with a red and white mono cable then just suddenly stopped working so i figured it was the cable and replaced it, but still... Please any help would be appreciated

Apart from making sure the selections SP/DIF-ADAT and Coax-Optical are correct at both ends, you need to successively change the factors to determine where the fault lies.
Can you borrow an optical cable or yet another coaxial to eliminate the new cable being faulty? Or connect the VS-840 to another system, or another source (eg DVD player or CD with digital out) to the 1212?

the setttings should be the same, because i dont remember changing anything, but i already connected the mic directly to the 1212 and it worked finr, and i connected the roland to another computer with the old mono red and white cables. i was told it might be the sample rate, but im not sure how to check that haha thanks

I've just read that PatchMix has a counter-intuitive quirk (unless it's been corrected in a later version) so you need to select ADAT in the Optical IO settings for S/PDIF to work.
I don't have the wherewithal to connect anything digital to my 0404 at the moment to check this, but if you come back to this topic, give it a try.

Hmm, pity. It's a process of elimination then to determine where the connection is breaking down.
In the meantime can you make do with analog transfer? Won't be quite as clean but you mightn't notice too much...
