CD/DVD drive D missing
CD/DVD drive D is missing on my Dell Inspiron 8500 laptop. I do have IE 7 installed for about one month now. I have not tried to burm a DVD since I installed IE7 and don't know if that is the cause. Windows repair wizzard could not install the drivers for either the built in DVD or for Sony 530 external burner. Wizzard said 39 was the error. Any suggestions? I am not a computer geek and sure hate to reinstall Windows XP home.
I did the delete and scan for hardware in Device Manager. Reply was found new hardware but there was a problem installing. Also, I did a delete through Device Manager and rebooted. Again "found new hardware" but D drive is still missing.

This is a common error and the fix is here Although it blames Easy CD, there are a number of causes of this problem, but to my knowledge, IE7 is not one of them.
Sorry you have not been answered before now.

Can anyone help me? I have a similiar problem,. I am using Windows XP on my PC and i had itunes and my ipod. I plugged my ipod into the comp. and opened up itunes so i could update my ipod with all the newly dowloaded songs on itunes. The thing is, Itunes wouldnt recognize my Ipod, it never said "auto update ipod". So I unplugged my ipod. And then EVERY song on my Itunes wouldnt play. And my D drive keeps dissappearing. Anywhere I look for my Ddrive I can't find it. Although I was able to find it in Device Manager from "properties" after clicking MyComputer. So I have 2 separate questions: 1.) (All my songs are on my ipod still) I somehow managed to delete everything off my itunes library...itunes is empty now...so How do I get my songs back (that wont play)? And do you know if I am able to transfer songs from my ipod to my empty itunes without deleting everything off my Ipod?
2.) How do I relocate my D drive?

Welcome to Windrivers lawyergirl
By drive D, do you mean a cd or dvd drive?
Do you have service pack 2 loaded? (right click my computer, properties - sp2 is shown at the top in the operating system details if you have it.)
When you unplugged your ipod, did you use the safely remove hardware icon?

My D drive and Ipod probs continued
Okay, so I dont have the SP2. D:drive= DVD/CD drive. And no, quite honestly I can't think why i didnt use the safe eject ipod icon...I normally do, but the itunes program wasnt responding to my ipod and my ipod starting acting up, and i freaked and just pulled it out, and then the icon "Unsafe Eject" stayed on my Ipod and I couldnt figure out how to get rid of it, but eventually I ended up fixing it. I do know it takes time, I've already put a lot of time into researching how to fix my D drive but I also am willing to spend more time. My goal is to fix stuff, no matter how long it takes, without having to pay for anything to get fixed at a store (e.g. Ipod, Ddrive, Itunes, etc....) So if you know how to help me, and would be willing to tell me how, i'd appreciate any help i can get. I'm outta ideas.....

OK, yanking out the ipod may have corrupted everything on there... you need to try it in a friend's machine to be sure. If it works in a friend's machine ok, then we have just got your machine to sort out. If not, you may have corrupted the ipod beyond repair, but we will try to sort it out.
Back to the cd/dvd drive, what make and model is it please?
Why do you not have service pack 2?

Welcome to Windrivers rookishay
You are saying you have only a single CD drive.
You download music on to your computer
You can't burn the downloaded music because the blank CD is not recognised.
What windows are you using?
What burning software are you using?
What is the cd drive model number?
