PMA Update Failure
I have installed windows vista and Nero.Ultra.Edition.Enhanced.v7.8.5.0.
When I want to burn cds everything goes alright.
However when I want to burn dvds everytime it reaches only 1% and then shows PMA Update failure and could not perform Disc-at-once.
So,the burn is cancelled and the dvd is lost...
I have an LG DVDR.
Also when I burn the dvd automatically when I create a movie with ConvertXtoDvd everything goes OK.
Does anyone know what it has to do with?
Is it a software or a hardware problem.
Thanks a lot.

Welcome to Windrivers Angelosbg
What sort of dvds are you burning? Video, data?
PMA failures are usually to do with media incompatibility or trying to burn too much data. Can you post the nero log?

You would have to ask Nero why they haven't updated the text in the logfile.
KEY_MEDIUM_ERROR << this means you are using media that your drive doesn't like.

You can also see if upgrading your firmware helps the problem(s)
I see you are using a LG DVD-Writer model GSA-4160B with a firmware revision of A300. Doing a quick search on the internet it looks the latest firmware revision may be A306. I will try and find a legit download link and post it. What area are you in so we can get the appropriate one.
Information found here http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Firm...px?DriveId=984
I just would like to have it confirmed because I cannot find anything on LGs website

Ok, I went to www.lge.com and going through their global site I found the firmware.
-So go to www.lge.com and choose global as you region
-Then Click the support link at the top
-Under the Software and Manuals click the software link
-Select You location
-Then in the search location select DVD-ROM(Writer)
-Leave the Operating system as All
-In the subject section put your model number which is GSA-4160B and then click search
A results box should show up and you can dowload the GSA-4160_A306.exe file and that is the latest firmware.
In the past revisions they have added compatibity and reliability updates and that may be the solution to your problem.

I have already updated the firmware to A306 and the problem hasn't been solved. If you want,I can post a new log where i will lose anoher dvd .
I am starting to believe that there is a problem with my drive.
Do you think that it is normal to burn cds perfectly and not dvds at all?
Thanks for everything,anyway..

Yes it's possible, but have you tried a different make of DVD blank?
There are still a few things that you can try...
Update the chipset drivers for the motherboard for your computer.
Try different DVD burning software - vista's own or www.deepburner.com
Try the drive in another machine

I installed ImgBurn without uninstalling Nero.
This is ImgBurn's error report. It didn't even reach 1%.It remained in 0 and showed this error.

I just keep trying and losing Dvds
Also I tried to burn a Traxdata Dvd-RW and the same thing happened..
How can I update the chipset drivers of my motherboard?
When I installed Vista I installed the latest drivers of my motherboard. Is them that you mean?

Yes that's what I mean, the latest drivers for your motherboard. What is your motherboard make and model?
So imgburn is giving you the same error and states
INCOMPATIBLE FORMAT
Do you have a different make of dvd blank you can try?
Have you considered updating the drive firmware?

When I installed vista I downloaded the latest drives for my motherboard. Also the firmware is A306 as you can see,the latest for my LG DVD-R and I have used 2 formats of media with the same results.
At last I think that my DVD-R is damaged.

To be absolutely sure, can you put that drive in another machine? Is it under warranty?
