This board does not have firewire Do you have a firewire supplied by a PCI card? If not, you will have to get one.

your spec? From the computer company? Or are you looking at a different motherboard spec? If you did have firewire, why did you state you wouldn't know how to put a firewire card in?

Have you plugged in the camera to the firewire port yet?
You said the software wouldn't load - which software?
Have you checked with JVC for an update?
What operating system are you using?

    to answer your questions.......
your spec? From the computer company?
The printed spec list from my order.

Or are you looking at a different motherboard spec? If you did have firewire, why did you state you wouldn't know how to put a firewire card in?
did not know i had a firewire till i checked the receipt list.

Have you plugged in the camera to the firewire port yet?
Did not know I could. camera only came with a usb lead. Do not have a firewire lead.

Have you checked with JVC for an update?
have checked jvc for an update but they list VERY few sotfware updates not including one for my camcorder.

You said the software wouldn't load - which software?
Tried installing everything from cd that came with the vid camera - said no driver found.

What operating system are you using?
Vista 64bit. Camera used to work on previous laptop with xp professional.

thanks again for your help with this problem

I tnink that camera has been archived and abandoned by JVC.

You 'may' be able to run 3rd party software for Vista that will recognize it.

Try the free trial of Ulead Video Studio 11 from here:

    http://www.ulead.com/vs/features.htm

You WILL need the firewire cable fron JVC to do the hookup (they make scary noises about using any other cable) - the part number is in the manual pdf here:

    Thanks for the advice

Jvc might make scary noises about using other dv cables but they charge even scarier prices at £30 for a 2m cable available elsewhere for £10 !!! tempted to buy the cheaper version - what can be the difference?

I will try the free trial software but will hopefully be able to use the fire wire with microsoft movie maker which is already installed.

    What do you think?

If you have vista premium, you have a video editing package...

Firewire cables are not expensive... I sell the 5m version for 9.99 and the 2m for 6.99 +p&p... pm me if you want one. However, the scary noises are about the level of screening and general build quality of the cable. I run my Sony quite happily.

However... have you found the firewire port on your computer? It looks a bit like a usb port, but is wider.

the camera will have a 4 pin port like this

the computer will have a 6 pin port like this but can have a 4pin port instead.
