Online backup and remote windows installation
Hello all :O)
Since fast internet is starting to be a common thing in Israel (2.5Mbit down / 256Kbit up for a 25$ per month), I thought about suggesting my clients an online backup solution for their important files. I computed that the upload speed will be something like 60MB per hour, Which will be enough to most clients to upload 200-300MB per day overnight with an extra "weekend special" backup.
I wonder if it's better to use a program that i will install on their computer (Like Cobian backup for example), That have a log and can mail me the results, OR to use an already web-built upload site application.
If I install the program, I can even buy online storage space and re-sell it, But since prices ranging around 20$ per 500mb space per month, I don't know if it's worth all the hassle since there isn't much profit in it.
2nd thing, I saw an add for server storage that mentioned that one of the option you can buy is online access to the bios of the server and ability to install Windows from your home for example. Is that possible ? Is it a feature of the motherboard server bios ? If it is, I would be more than happy to sell computers based on this motherboard that will let me reinstall their windows remotly.....

Hi,
I highly suggest that you will not do this remote backup for your clients - you are taking too much responsibility for not much $$$. don't forget that Backup is only a third or quorter of the story (try to imagine RESTORE scenario...).
if you do want something that easy to use try:

Again,
I highly suggest that the customers will take care of their own backup.
if you do want to suggest something "nice" for file/outlook (no exchange/sql...) backup you can try - BOS (you probably know "chief"...):
http://www.bos.co.il/150163
about the second thing - I think there are ways to install remotely the server - it does rely somewhat on the motherboard (more accurate the Network interface) - what it does it has PXE + a small remote protocol firmware.

Gabriel
