Missing Drivers After Os Install
I just had to reinstall my OS....windows XP Home on a dell dimension 8300. All went fine but now the device manager shows yellow marks on three items...seems drivers are missing. I have a dell disc with drivers, but the system can't seem to find the ones it needs on the disc.
Multimedia Audio Controller
Sm bus controller
Video Controller (VGA compatable
Everest shows this information
Intel 82801EB ICH5-AC'97 AUDIO CONTROLLER (A-2/A-3)
VIDEO ADAPTER NVIDIA GEFORCE FX 5200
Motherboard
motherboard id <DMI>
motherboard name dell dimension 8300
I don't know where the information pertaining to the bus controller? is?
my monitor seems to be working ok, but I have no sound. So far I haven't seen other problems....just that these drivers are evidently missing. My networking driver was also missing, but I managed to find and download it on my other computer, so at least I am back online now.
can someone please head me in the right direction to get my sound going? I will post more information if you need it.
thanks
Katy

Best place to look is http://support.dell.com/ and go to drivers and downloads and from there you can select your computer model or enter your service tag and it will populate your drivers for you. The SM Bus driver is part of the chipset. Here are the links to the latest driver downloads for your system.
Integrated audio driver - http://support.dell.com/support/topi...pup&file=70114
Intel Chipset Driver (I would think this would take care of the SM Bus Driver) http://support.dell.com/support/topi...pup&file=70069
NVidia GeForce 5200:
Dell Driver - http://support.dell.com/support/topi...pup&file=98537
NVidia Driver (I recommend using this one) - http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_175.19_whql.html

Glad you got it working. I work on dells all the time since that is what we use at the school I work at and their driver discs just throw everything at you and it can be confusing at times.
